Guan Zhong (723-645 BC) was a native of Yingshang (now Yingshang County, Anhui Province). Yiwu, a representative figure of Legalism in the Spring and Autumn Period, a politician and thinker, is known as "the pioneer of Legalism", "the sage's teacher" and "the first prime minister of China". He was honored as "General Bingshen Taisui Guanzhong" by Taoism. Recommended by Bao Shuya, he became the prime minister of the State of Qi and assisted Duke Huan of Qi to become the first overlord in the Spring and Autumn Period.Bao Shuya (716-644 BC) was a native of Yingshang (now Yingshang County, Anhui Province). They were young friends and went out to do business together. Guan Zhong's family was poor and had an old mother to support, so he always took more profits. Bao Shuya did not take it seriously and always treated Guan Zhong kindly. Later, Guan Zhong and Bao Shuya became teachers for Prince Jiu and Prince Xiaobai of the State of Qi respectively. In order to fight for the throne, Childe Jiu and Childe Xiaobai launched a fierce struggle, Guan Zhong once participated in the shooting of Childe Xiaobai, but only shot the belt hook, Xiaobai escaped the disaster and won the throne, that is, Duke Huan of Qi. Childe Jiu fled and was killed by the people of Lu, and his teacher Guan Zhong became a prisoner. When Bao Shuya learned that Guan Zhong had been imprisoned, he said to Duke Huan of Qi, If you only want to govern Qi, then Shuya and Gao are enough. If you want to achieve the world's hegemony, then you must be in charge. Regardless of the past, Duke Huan of Qi adopted Bao Shuya's suggestion and worshipped Guan Zhong as the prime minister. Guan Zhong assisted Duke Huan of Qi in carrying out reforms at home: "When the granaries were full, he knew etiquette; when he had enough food and clothing, he knew honor and disgrace." Externally, he carried out the policy of "respecting the king and resisting the barbarians" and "uniting the nine princes to rectify the world." Finally, Duke Huan of Qi became the "first overlord" of the Five Hegemons in the Spring and Autumn Period.
